Welcome to the Downtown Charter High website.

Downtown Charter High is a new public high school that will be located on the sixth and seventh floor of the New San Diego Central Library in downtown San Diego.

Scheduled to open in late August of 2013 with an entering class of approximately 250 ninth and tenth graders, Downtown Charter High will eventually serve approximately 500 high school students in grades 9 – 12.

Based on an innovative educational design and partnering with the downtown community and the New San Diego Central Library, students at Downtown Charter High will learn, create, and excel in preparation for college, career, and civic engagement.

DCH is an “infused learning” environment.  A place where woven throughout the curriculum are project-based activities to explore:

  • Civic Leadership and Service
  • Cultural and Social Literacy
  • Internships and Job Shadowing
  • New Media and Information Technology
  • Nutrition and Community Wellness

Are you interested in attending or working at DCH?

Prospective Students: Please check back on the website in September 2012 for information on enrolling as a 9th or 10th grader in school year 2013-14.  DCH will start with both 9th and 10th grades in late August of 2013.

Prospective Teachers and Staff: Please check back on the website in August 2012 for information on openings for teachers, dean of students, and other school personnel.

March 2012: DCH was awarded a grant from the Rose Foundation to fund a project-based learning nutrition kitchen in support of the school’s health and wellness learning strand.

May 2012: DCH was awarded a grant from the Walton Family Foundation to support the development of a high quality charter school learning environment.
